Life Whispers…
Can you recall the last moment in your life when you felt that something just isn’t right? If you looked at your life objectively from a third-person’s perspective, would you say that you’re happy and living out your truth? More importantly, do you believe in living out your dreams? If your answer is yes, no, maybe, or I’m not sure — then hopefully this quote will help guide your thinking.
“I say the universe speaks to us, always, first in whispers. And a whisper in your life usually feels like ‘hmm, that’s odd.’ Or, ‘hmm, that doesn’t make any sense.’ Or, ‘hmm, is that right?’ It’s that subtle. And if you don’t pay attention to the whisper, it gets louder and louder and louder. I say it’s like getting thumped upside the head. If you don’t pay attention to that, it’s like getting a brick upside your head. You don’t pay attention to that—the brick wall falls down. That is the pattern that I see in my life and so many other people’s lives. And so, I ask people, ‘What are the whispers? What’s whispering to you now?’” — Oprah
If you know me well, or if you barely knew me and read my posts, you can probably tell I’m a big Oprah fan. I felt like I hit home when I read this quote. It spoke to me on so many different levels. Life whispers… to you — sometimes when you least expect it to. If you hear life whispering and it’s showing you the way (i.e. when I had the hunch to leave the world of technology/banking because I wasn’t passionate about it), you should listen to it. If you don’t listen to the whispers, sooner or later it’ll become a scream. Next thing you’ll know… it’ll just be a big slap in the face and you might’ve missed your chance. Life whispered to me on Feb. 14 of this year, and it told me to follow my dreams. It told me to live the life I have imagined. It also warned me that this journey will be a strenuous and emotionally draining venture, but it will be worth it in the end.
Do I know if I’ll land the exact position in the firm I’m currently at? The answer is no. That’s the risk I’m willing to take and life has already whispered the precaution to me.
This topic randomly popped up in a conversation I had with one of my best friends Karen Song. Life never stops whispering to you — it might even be whispering to you right now. If you don’t think life is whispering to you, it could be something else… life’s whisper can be synonymous to your heart, passion, love, God, and so on and so forth. So if you read up until this point, stop and listen to it.
My life whispers today:- (After receiving an email from my director about the crazy week ahead with our new clients T-Mobile and Shiseido) - although I may have landed an exceptional internship program at my #1 choice in experiential marketing & brand consulting firms, there’s MORE that can be done on a day to day basis. I need to PUSH & HUSSLE much more! I need to become EVEN more knowledgeable about my field/profession and have foresight in where it’s going in the economy today.
- (When riding in Karen’s car, she had Kelly Cutrone’s memoir out in the open… so I took a peek) - Constantly feed my brain with knowledge, wisdom and inspiration — push to finish the 3 books I’m reading. One that I’m so excited about is Kelly Cutrone’s “If You Have to Cry, Go Outside”.
- (After watching “Burn the Floor” Broadway show tonight) - dancing is not over for me. I will be back and stronger than ever! I can’t let this passion die.
- (breaking down in my car this morning on the way to my 2nd job) - i need to count my blessings, not my misfortunes. I am blessed to have an internship I can only dream of and a 2nd job to pay for living expenses. Even if I work 6 days a week & I’m constantly drained — it’s a blessing in disguise.
So, what’s life whispering to you right now? Is it loud enough for you to hear? Or will you wait a little longer so the tone gets a little deeper? Or will you wait for the scream? Or wait for the slap in the face? You tell me :).
