Once a Dreamer, Always a Dreamer
Tomorrow is the big day! I will officially be walking through the door into the event production/experiential marketing/brand consulting world in the entertainment industry! I’m too excited and anxious for words. I hope I can sleep tonight.
If you’re going to read this, I hope that you don’t see this entry as a way for me to gloat about my life. It’s just a way for me to reflect and motivate myself for what’s to come. :)
I’ve been doing a lot of reminiscing since I graduated about 2-3 weeks ago. The nostalgia has definitely been in full-effect, especially this weekend. I was flashing back to my childhood and to where I am at in my life today. I noticed that ever since I was young, I always had a tendency to dream — really big. I never liked to dream of little mediocre things that can be achieved within the week or month. I liked to dream of things that take time, hard work, blood, sweat, and tears.
I’m just going to flash back and record all the dreams I ever had…- Age 9-15 — always dreamed of moving out of the ghettos since I lived there from the day I was born until the end of my high school career. Dream accomplished when I took off to college with scholarships to help my financial situation. My family also managed to save up through their hard labor and made the move to Sacramento.
- Age 14 — buying my own car. I got my first job at age 14, tutoring elementary school students after school. From there, I worked at Taco Bell, American Eagle, interned at Unified and was a sushi chef at a local sushi restaurant. By senior year, I managed to save up $5,000 to put a down payment on my car that I have today.
- Age 17 — getting elected as class president. I was definitely not the leadership type of person. I hung out with the labeled “Asians from Louis Park” who just breakdanced during lunch hours and wasn’t competitive in academics. Sophomore year in high school, I decided to get more involved with school and joined 5+ clubs. From there, I put myself out there, made myself known, made the right connections, and my fellow classmates elected me as their class president. This was definitely a milestone that gave me the courage to pursue any goal or dream, no matter how unrealistic it might be.
- Age 18 — graduated top 5 of 600 students at Edison High. Gave a graduation speech & made my parents cry tears of joy. This far exceeded my expectations of myself.
- Age 18 — dreamt of dancing with my dream dance team Kaba Modern. Auditioned my freshman year in college and failed horribly. Trained for an entire year… and my dancing dream came to life in the year 2008.
- Age 20-22 — i always dreamed of working in the entertainment/media industry. The biggest thing that held me back was … myself. My whole college career I interned in fields that I knew would give me a bigger return on my investments. I needed money… to help out my family when they needed me to. I interned in real estate, marketing, software/technology, advertising, banking, etc. It wasn’t until February 14, 2011 that I had a life-changing revelation and decided to chase after my dreams. I’m still in the process of accomplishing/reaching this dream — being an event planner/marketing associate in the entertainment industry. I just recently landed a position in MKG Productions — a company that specializes in event production in the industry. I know that this chapter of my life will have a PLETHORA of challenges and obstacles. But guess what? — I’m so FUCKING READY. There’s no FUCKING way I’m taking NO for an answer. I’m going to exceed all of the expectations and standards that are expected of me. If you have time… you should Google the CEO of our company: Maneesh K. Goyal. I DREAM TO HAVE HIS JOB. I am so blessed & grateful that I have this opportunity to learn and grow within this company and industry.
- Age 22 — dreams in the far future: MBA from a top program, buying my parents a beautiful home they can grow old in, taking my family on a vacation to Laos, acquire a top position within a company or own a business, & inspire the masses. Oh… can’t forget about — falling in love :)
That’s the best thing about LIFE. Every day is an opportunity. An opportunity to chase after your dreams and one day reach them. I know I will get there.
